Susan - Seeing chainmaille for the first time at a renaissance faire sparked Susan's interest in attempting to create some for herself. Beginning with crude materials, she managed to master many common weaves used in creating chainmaille items. Moving on from craft wire to galvanized steel, she coiled and cut her own rings.
After a few projects with the galvanized steel, she moved on to cleaner metals, including aluminum, stainless steel, sterling silver, niobium and titanium. Her first big project with the aluminum was a shirt (called a hauberk) made for a friend. It was all coiled and cut and assembled by Susan. She even included trim and a inlaid symbol in bronze. That was after only 8 months of experience with chainmaille.
After her brief interlude with making armor, Susan much preferred the elegance of the jewelry she made with the sterling silver rings.
While she will still occasionally create armor or other clothing-type wearables, her specialty remains jewelry and other accessories.
After 4 years of making chainmaille, Susan has now expanded her creativity to include lampworked glass. While still fairly new in this endeavor, she has plans to make her own beads, pendants and charms to incorporate into her chainmaille jewelry.
